Before you preorder Danganronpa × Sanrio, check the word 'trading'

4 Sept 2026 · 3 min read

You spot Kokichi with Kuromi in the new Danganronpa × Sanrio artwork. Cute. You open a preorder and see the same character image, but the listing does not make one thing obvious: are you buying that exact pairing, or one sealed random item?

That one detail can turn a happy mail day into an expensive surprise.

The word that changes the order is 'trading'

Japan uses trading for products sold as random pulls. The official collaboration page shows the full character lineup, but that artwork does not mean you can choose any character shown.

For this release, the trading acrylic keychains come in two groups of eight. One purchase gives you one random design from the relevant group, not your chosen character and not the complete group.

These Danganronpa × Sanrio items are random

  • Trading acrylic keychains, Vol. 1: one of eight designs
  • Trading acrylic keychains, Vol. 2: one of eight designs
  • Instant-photo-style cards: one of 16 designs
  • Matte badges, Vol. 1: one of eight designs
  • Matte badges, Vol. 2: one of eight designs

A photo of your favourite design may be showing the possible lineup, not the item inside your pack. Check the purchase unit before paying.

ONE WORD TO CHECK

'Trading' means the design is random

If a listing uses that word, do not assume the character in the first photo is the one you will receive. Look for the number of possible designs and the exact unit being sold.

The venue bonus is random too

The Japan pop-up begins on 11 September. At participating venues, an eligible purchase of at least ¥2,000 earns one illustration card from a 16-design lineup. The official page says the design cannot be chosen and the bonus is available only while supplies last.

The qualifying purchase gives you one random card. It does not let you select Kokichi, Kuromi or any other pairing.

Not every item follows the same rule

The lineup also includes acrylic stands, sticker sets, glitter acrylic art and other goods that are not marked as trading items. That is a useful signal, but you should still confirm the exact selectable option on the purchase page before you pay.

Do not rely on the main campaign image alone. Match the character name, product type, volume and purchase unit.

You do not need to panic-buy before launch day

The Loft pop-ups start on 11 September and roll out across ten locations in Japan. The organizer also says an online sale is planned after the store events, although it has not announced the details.

That is not a restock promise. It does mean you can compare the format and the complete delivered cost instead of treating the first overseas preorder you see as your only chance.
